The History of Microsoft Office Suite
1990:
Microsoft Office for Windows was released in
1990 as “Office 1.0”. When the package
was released in 1990 it included Word 1.1, Excel 2.0, and PowerPoint 2.0. Within
its first year, Microsoft became the first company to exceed $1 billion sales
in one year.
1992:
In 1992 Microsoft Office 3.0 was released. It
included updates to the previously released programs, and also introduced
Microsoft Mail (an early version of Outlook). The package was the first
Microsoft program that came out on both floppy disk and CD-ROM.
1994:

1995:
In 1995 substantial changes were made to the
Office suite as a part of the introduction of Windows 95. The functionality and
design philosophy of the software was solidified with this version. This
provided the use with more user friendly methods to complete task. It was also
said to be the most stable of the Microsoft Office and Windows versions to be
released.
1997:
Office 97 was released in 1997 and featured Word
97, Excel 97, PowerPoint 97, and Mail 97. They released the 1997 version on
CD-ROM and they created floppy disk so that it would be Y2K safe
2000-2013:
Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 2000 were all
introduced in 1999. Office 2003 was released on November 17, 2013. It included an
updated version of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel that were created to support the
most recent Microsoft system, Microsoft XP. Since then, there was a new version
of Microsoft Office released in 2007, 2010, 2012, and 2013. There are several
versions of Microsoft Office, some are geared towards businesses and their
needs and other are just home and standard.
